Vanessa Marcotte & Karina Vetrano, in two separate incidents, went missing and were found deceased by the police.

Although the deaths have some similar details - they are not related according to the authorities. The similarities include both were avid runners and their bodies were found in isolated areas.

Vanessa Marcotte was the first victim. She went for a run in the afternoon on Sunday in Princeton, Massachusetts. She left her mother’s home and when she was missing for more than 2.5 hours, police were called and a search party was organized. By evening, with help of police dogs, her body was found just a half a mile from her mother’s home. The autopsy report is not been released yet. She was a Google marketing manager.

Karina Vetrano was found in the neighbourhood of Howard County. In Ms.Vetrano’s case, she was found to be assaulted and then strangled to death.

Since the murders, female runners have shown some fear and anxiety. The women who like to run typically like to clock more miles and end up have to jog miles away from the city.

Women now feel safer if they run in groups. Such requests are becoming more popular for running groups such as She Runs This Town. Women are now compelled to change their routes and some have even started to jog in the city traffic instead of running alone in the woods. Others have stopped wearing headphones and make it a point to carry their Road ID. This ID typically has emergency contact information.

A lot of women expressed concern for their safety even during the day since both the attacks on the two female runners took place during the daylight hours. Some suggest using apps that track you and share locations with relatives.
