Boko Haram attack village in Nigeria, Feb. 1, 2016

"We had just finished evening prayers when the gunmen came to our village and indiscriminately opened fire and set fire to homes," were the words of resident Kulo Sheriff. The extremist group, Boko Haram viciously attacked Dalori village in the north of the country with gunfire and explosions. The villagers in this Borno state site were surprised by gunmen riding motorcycles, shooting their guns, and burning homes.

Some of the residents were able to flee into the bushes to watch their homes being burned down. They spent the night among the bushes in chilly conditions. The sounds of Boko Haram fighting against soldiers was horrible.

Violence did nothing but escalate as three female suicide bombers reached the neighboring Gamori village and detonated themselves among the crowds.

The attack started to be repelled by 8:40 pm but Boko Haram´s forces were superior. The terrorists retreated only when reinforcements with heavier weaponry arrived.

An unofficial count on the Saturday of the attack was at least 46 people dead and 35 injured. By Monday it was reported that 86 people had been killed included burned children. The streets of Dalori were filled with charred corpses and bodies with bullet wounds.  This is the third of a series of attacks perpetrated by the Islam extremist group, which has reportedly pledged allegiance to ISIS.

In 2014, Boko Haram killed 6,644 people, which represents a 300% increase over the previous year. During 6 years, this brutal Nigerian terrorist group has killed over 20,000 people and displaced 2.5 million from their homes. They have bombed schools, mosques, and churches and have kidnapped hundreds of women and children and assassinated politicians and civilians.
